(Shaman Backstory)

Inside the three private institutions founded by Saint Financial Group – Sacred Gate, Mystic Peak and Phoenix – there’s a group of students who love to hang out at the edges of the campus. They usually gather near enormous rock formations or century old trees on the outskirts of the school community. They are the students of Shaman Training Section, whom at first glance may seem to be existing in the sidelines of the campuses but they are actually functioning the center.

Shaman Training Section is actually not included in the original plan for each campus. It was established by a Senior Student Counselor, popularly known as Grand Mudang, who found a number of struggling scholars, mostly daughters of her fellow Shaman before the Great Tragedy happened. These students always look anxious and worried and Grand Mudang discovered that it is because they are being called to fulfill their destiny. So even without the School Administration’s approval, Grand Mudang started to train and guide students in her underground Shaman Training Section.

Due to the spiritual and unconventional nature of their power, Shaman students are considered ignorant, unsophisticated and are belittled as lower class in the open, but almost everyone secretly comes to a Shaman and ask for guidance, blessings, or healing. A lot of scholars also try to be a part of this underground class but normal students are not capable of handling the activities in the Shaman Training Section.

There are only few ways to get accepted and become a successful Shaman. First, if you are born to a Shaman family, then you can be a hereditary Shaman. However it is matrilineal so men from Shaman families sometimes pretend to be a woman to get accepted or they get married to a Shaman. Next, you can also become a Shaman if you are called to be one. This is manifested by being weak and constantly sick whenever you are joining other classes and only through answering the call of being a Shaman will get you cured.

Since Shamans act as mediator between the human and the spiritual worlds through rituals, chants, and ceremonies, SFG tried to control how Grand Mudang teaches and guides the Shamans. The Administration only allowed Possessive Shamanism wherein students become channels for different gods or spirits of deceased persons in order to help and heal others. Shamans are told that as the power of their skills lies in their understanding of the Universe’s spirit they should remember that their goals are not geared toward destruction. This is to prevent them from discovering what SFG tries to hide from the community.

SFG has successfully controlled the Grand Mudang because they abducted her only daughter Liz, and kept her hidden, guarded by the vicious Lucian. Liz is also surrounded by crystals so not only spirit or shaman may not find her but also prevented her from using her own power.

But as Shamans’ ability grows stronger, Soul-Flight Shamanism, although forbidden, became a popular practice. This boosted Shaman’s physical and spiritual strength from the wisdom and energy that they gather while journeying into the spirit world and interacting with various deities and spirit beings. These spiritual encounters made them learn the dark secrets and inhumane experiments of SFG and discovered how the Administration is using Liz to control the Grand Mudang.

These discoveries prompted Shamans to an uprising. They gathered their classmates and friends. They made students aware, particularly those who come to them for assistance and spiritual support, of what’s happening outside the walls of their campuses and what lies beyond what normal students see.
As the Shamans mobilize other classes, they are now ready to give their all to stop SFG evil research and save mankind…

Shaman Gameplay
Shaman is known to be the support class in RAN Online, however it is not only designed to give buffs and heal team members. With the right equipment and stats, Shaman can also inflict powerful damage.

There are two major ways on how you can build a shaman: Full Support Shaman and Battle Shaman.

For Full Support Shaman, you have to prioritize upgrading team buff and heal skills. Since Support Shaman doesn’t prioritize attack skills, you should increase protective stats like Defense, Evasion, HP, Recovery, Resistance and Reduction to defend yourself. Full Support Shaman may also get skills that can stun, silence, pull and debuff enemy. After mastering all Support Skills with just enough INT, stats are usually concentrated to VIT for maximum HP. Support Shaman may also add ENERGY in this case, you want to increase your INT attack skills.

If you, however, also want to take part in attacking enemies aside from supporting the team, you may build your shaman as Battle Shaman. You can be POW-INT, DEX-INT or POW-DEX-INT. These builds are complicated because you need to plan the allocation of your skills points properly. Although you will be attacking, Battle Shamans are still expected to cast essential team buffs, heal and resurrect allies, so make sure you will not neglect those skills.

For POW Shaman, you should increase your Melee stats; while for DEX Shaman, you should increase your Shooting stats, for maximum damage. Adding Accuracy and Attack stats will also help.

Kim, or –CassieL in-game, is a Level 300 Shaman from MP School of Strife Server. She is from Davao City, Philippines.

Year 2007 when Kim started playing RAN Online. She said her cousins and friends are the ones who introduced her the game. They influenced her into playing but she actually finds RAN a great game and fun to play. She said RAN Online not only reduces her stress but it also improves her ability to multi-task and her awareness in decision-making.
Kim said she never chose to play a Shaman character.

Her friends actually convinced her to choose this class because of its usefulness and being in-demand in the game. She then, cherished and appreciated Shaman class because of its skills, particularly buff skills because these skills can support and improve team play. She wants to do both being a support and a killer so she eventually falls in love playing Shaman Class.

For others who want to try playing Shaman, fulfilling the role of this class is never an easy task. You should always prioritize others above yourself because you are the support. Kim said that you should be very patient and focused at all cost to every inevitable situation that might come your way because you will be the main support to strengthen your team.

Featured Shaman User: “Hope

Ariana or “Hope in-game is a POW-INT Level 296 Shaman from MP Campus of Abyss Server. She’s a Filipino but is residing in California, USA.

She started playing RAN Online in 2006 when a friend talked about the game and it ticked her interest. She usually just do leveling, doing quests and customizing her character’s appearance by dressing up with various costumes and changing hair color and style. Ariana also shared that her mom also used to play RAN and she’s from Havoc Server with a Level 289 character.

Ariana loves playing Shaman class because of its ability to support the whole team through buffs. She enjoys that her skills can increase the damage of her team and can boost their defense against their enemies.

She said that she does not consider herself as a “pro shaman” but one thing she can share to those who wants to play this character is to master all the buffs that you need. Complete all the quests with Skill Points reward so you can build your skills easily. When upgrading your skills, better use items with additional stats to DEX, POW and INT, this way you can maximize them and still have a lot of points for HP.

Lastly, when it comes to training and PVP, Ariana said Shaman should check the status of each party member. You need to monitor everyone so you would know which buff to give them, like if they have low HP, use your Heaven’s Rain to heal them. And of course, do not be afraid to stand side by side with your team during clashes even if the enemy has higher level than you ‘coz Ultimate Bubble will always be there for you!

Featured Shaman User: AnneDumi

Kinks or AnneDumi (formerly knks) in-game is a Full Support Level 300 Shaman from Sacred Gate campus of Havoc Server. He is a Filipino who is now residing in New Zealand.
Kinks said he started playing RAN in 2008 and the one who influenced him is his mom who is an Archer. He also plays with his sister and both of them are Shamans. They play RAN Online as a family bonding and to spend time together.

He said he chose Shaman because it is a versatile class. The choice is yours if you want to play support or killer. Kinks said, Shaman is the best class to use if you want to play solo because you can support and kill with this class.

Shaman plays a vital role in this game. Having a Shaman character will make you feel significant. Important events like School Domination, Club War, and Club Death Match will be boring and the team will be weak without a Shaman in your party.

If you want to play a Full Support Shaman like AnneDumi, his advice is to always be attentive. Take care of your character so you can take care of your team well – you have to live for your party to survive. Make your character tanky so you will not hesitate to be beside your teammates during fights and support them fearlessly with your Ultimate Bubbles and Heal.

Being with your team during clashes is a great help for your team’s survival.
Kinks also said that being a Full Support Shaman doesn’t equate to using only your buff and heal skills. There are attack skills that can disable enemies and these are helpful to the team. Examples are Soul Wave, Furious Lightening, Infernal Twister and Will o’Wisp. Look also for skills that can reduce enemy’s range and can debuff them.
